2025年11月26日(水)、ブルガリアソフィア大学・GATE研究所にて、東京大学大学院情報学環ユビキタス情報社会基盤研究センターとブルガリアソフィア大学・GATE研究所は、AIを活用したデータスペースとスマートシティに関する研究推進に関する包括的な協力覚書（MOU）を締結しました。
調印式には、ソフィア大学のレネタ・ボヤンコヴァ副学長、駐日ブルガリア共和国大使のマリエタ・アラバジエヴァ氏、駐日ブルガリア共和国大使館の代表者が出席し、越塚 登 東京大学大学院情報学環教授・ユビキタス情報社会基盤研究センター長と、シルビア・イリエヴァGATE Institute所長が署名しました。
本覚書は、AIを活用したデータ空間、ビッグデータ、スマートシティ、人間中心の技術、デジタルツイン、先進モビリティなどの分野における共同プロジェクトの新たな機会を開くものであり、学術交流を加速させることが目的です。科学の卓越性の向上と欧州とアジア間の国際協力の促進に向けた両機関のコミットメントを反映しています。
今後は、共同研究、セミナー、教育プログラムを通じて協力関係を構築し、世界のAIを活用したデータスペース分野をリードしてくことが期待されています。
The IIUAC of the University of Tokyo and the GATE Institute at Sofia University in Bulgaria Sign Comprehensive MOU in AI-enabled Data Spaces and Smart Cities
On Wednesday, November 27, 2025, the Institute of Infrastructure Application of Ubiquitous Computing (IIAUC), Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies, The University of Tokyo, was honored to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Big Data for Smart Society Institute (GATE) at Sofia University, Bulgaria.
The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Reneta Bozhankova, Vice Rector of Sofia University; Her Excellency Ms. Marieta Arabadjieva, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Japan; and representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Japan. The MoU was signed by Prof. Noboru Koshizuka, Director of IIAUC at the University of Tokyo, and Prof. Sylvia Ilieva, Director of the GATE Institute at Sofia University.
This Memorandum of Understanding establishes a strategic framework for collaboration in key areas of shared interest, including AI-enabled data spaces, smart and sustainable cities, human-centered technologies, digital twins, and smart mobility. It demonstrates both institutions’ commitment to advancing scientific excellence and strengthening international cooperation between Europe and Asia.
Looking ahead, the two institutions aim to deepen their partnership through joint research, seminars, and educational programs, with the shared goal of becoming global leaders in the field of AI-driven data spaces.
